This is the homepage and online portfolio of Sheila Koenig, known online and on most of my blogs as Stark. Stark is a word I find particularly appealing, as it brings to mind brutal landscapes, bare truth, and unmasked bodies. I aspire to starkness in my writing, in my approach to the world and in my interactions with other people.
On this site, I am collecting a selection of my work, mostly writing, but with a smattering of hobby photography and videomaking on the side. On my blog you will find me documenting my world through the lens of a cheap cell phone camera.
StarkPages are part of koenig-schwartz.com, a site I operate in conjunction with my partner, Michelle Schwartz. She is much funnier and smarter than I am; check out her blog.
I am a freelance writer and editor currently living in Toronto, Ontario.
In 2005 I graduated with a Master's degree in Communication and Culture from Ryerson University. My areas of concentration included research in media and cultural studies as well as applied audio/visual technology. My Master's Research Paper can be found in .doc format on my writing page.
Since 2005 I have worked mostly as a freelance writer, editor and classifier at TripAdvisor, doing everything from simple data entry to compiling and writing copy for the site and related content. I have also been maintaining a number of blogs and vlogs, most recently joining the team at Shameless Magazine as a volunteer blogger.
I enjoy writing in various formats, from papers to stories, travel pieces to blogs. I am also exploring other media, including digital and lomo film photography, video and new media. I enjoy learning new technologies and look forward to sharing my discoveries here on StarkPages.
